Sunnyvale Solidarity Vigil
Sunnyvale Solidarity Vigil
Tuesday, November 15, 2022 (6:30 PM - 7:30 PM) (PST)
Description
United Against Hate Week (Nov. 13-19, 2022) |
Sunnyvale will join hundreds of communities standing against racism, bigotry and intolerance as part of United Against Hate Week.
Civic leaders created this week in response to the sharp rise in expressions of hate in our communities. Sunnyvale takes pride in the incredible diversity of people who form the rich fabric of our city. We embrace our community of many backgrounds and beliefs. And we commit to creating a culture of belonging. All members of our diverse community should feel safe, included, heard, and respected. Yet, we know that Sunnyvale is not immune to hate. In 2019, a terrible hate crime took place in the City of Sunnyvale. It left eight pedestrians injured. A child’s life was permanently altered. We were shocked and saddened but we came together to call for unity and healing.
With the rise of anti-Asian hate incidents in 2021, we again came together in support of residents facing senseless harm. We must continue to find ways to bring our diverse community together to strengthen our ties. Stand with Sunnyvale civic leaders, faith leaders, local nonprofits, residents and local businesses in calling for unity.
Solidarity Vigil When: Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Sunnyvale Community Center @ Upper Fountain
We invite you to pick up a “Sunnyvale Stands United Against Hate” poster, light a candle and take a moment of silence to show Sunnyvale’s commitment to unity.
